Child Protective Services

Child Abuse, Protective Services

Child Protective Services Attorney Serving Frisco, Texas and Surrounding Areas

Protecting your child is your top priority; protecting your rights is mine. I’m committed to providing households like yours with litigation services and securing ideal futures for the children of Frisco, Texas, and the surrounding areas of Plano, Collin County, and Denton County. Learn more about your options by setting up a consultation.

The Purpose of Child Protective Services

The Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) assesses child abuse, neglect, and exploitation reports. Child Protective Services (CPS) gets involved with families once the DFPS Investigation division makes a referral.

CPS investigates reports of this nature to determine the next steps for the allegedly abused or neglected child, which could include placing children in foster care or adoptive homes or providing strengthening services to them and their families in their own homes.

CPS visiting your family home is anything but ideal. My approach to serving clients in cases of child protection is rooted in compassion and reliability. With me in your corner, I’ll make sure your questions are answered, your concerns are heard, and your defense case honors the best interests of your family.

What to Expect During the CPS Investigation Process

Once an incident is reported to the CPS, caseworkers will initiate and complete the assessment within 30 days. They will generally do any or all of the following:

  • Interview the child for whom the report was made, as well as any other children in the home or other household members who may have insights into the situation
  • Reach out to inform the family of any interviews and the nature of the allegations within 24 hours after an investigation has occurred.
  • Walk through the report with the family to rule out any instances of abuse or neglect by determining explanations for injuries, safety concerns, or other risk factors.
  • Visually examine children for physical signs of abuse or neglect
  • Request mental health records or examinations of the child, since not all abuse can be seen

At the end of the investigation, DFPS makes a disposition, which is a ruling on the allegation. They will conclude whether your child is safe or unsafe. If they determine the latter, they may - depending on severity - offer specialized services to address the problem.
